AEM Dessau GmbH

Company introduction

The company AEM Dessau GmbH can look back on 140 years of history. It was founded in 1872 as the Berlin-Anhaltische Maschinenbau AG and the Dessau site has been building electric motors since 1948. During the GDR the company was nationally-owned before being privatised in 1993.

Since then the company has been family-led and has become a reliable partner for clients all over the world. In particular, AEM specialises in the client-specific development and production of generators for hydropower and shipbuilding as well as motors for mining machines, hoisting machines, construction machines and test rigs. All of the production steps, from the development to the production, assembly and inspection on the company’s own testing field, take place exclusively in Dessau. In order to meet the ever-increasing demand, the production has been continuously expanded over the last years and between 2006 and 2012 a total of €14 million were invested in modernisation measures.
